You! The Queen of the Lake of Awareness

Recently the images in some poetry by an 8th Tibetan Buddhist named Yeshe Tsoygel have burned their way into my mind and reminded me how essential imagery – and, more specifically, how we play with it in our minds – is to our ability to allow creativity to flow. In Yeshe’s writings she switches from her own voice, where she is recounting the agonies and ecstasies of her life as a persecuted nun, to a more cosmic one where she speaks from the point of view of the Enlightened. In one of these moments, she writes as the “Queen of the Lake of Awareness”.

What an image! Every time I time I think of it the Queen and the lake come clearly into my mind. And then the image begins to change. Sometimes color, shape, radiance, depth – everything – changes and sometimes the image stays essentially the same but I go deeper and deeper into it, seeing ever more detail.

For this creativity exercise begin as usual with Inspiration – Just a Breath Away Exercise (or your own method) to tune tap into the cosmic source of creativity within known in yoga as prana-shakti and have your pen and paper or other creative tools at hand.

As you enter the protected, light-filled, inner space begin to visualize the lake and the queen, keeping in mind that you, like Yeshe, are the Queen and that this Lake of Awareness is infinite…

Allow imagination (a word whose root is “image”) to take these images and move where it will.

While you are still in a meditative state, open your eyes and begin to express your experience with the tools you have to hand….
