The book that I have been working on and off for the last few decades is finally out. During those years, I spent a lot of time coming out with other books and dedicating myself to my family, but I never stopped being captivated by the story of this man’s life.
Gopi Krishna, who lived from 1903 to 1984, was a radical, revolutionary man and thinker. What he was not, was a guru! Gurus have followers and claim to be spiritual teachers. He did neither of these. Instead, he spent his public life dedicated to two goals – promoting scientific research into the “energy” manifested in spiritual practices, for instance yoga, and furthering social justice.
As a social justice advocate, he was the leader of the Hindu minority in Kashmir during times of war and bloody unrest. Moreover, he worked tirelessly and passionately for the rights of women – even building what we would today call a shelter for abused women decades before the western world would realize the need for such compassionate caring.
Because I had access to archived correspondence and was able to interview members of his family and famous supporters of his work in India and around the world, the book contains never-before-told stories from his life and letters.
The book was launched by the publisher, The Institute for Consciousness Research, several weeks ago at the Yoga Show in Toronto, but on this auspicious day I am launching it on Facebook and my website. Godspeed good book!
